Golden Oldies 101

We’ve been playing for a long time!

The Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival is a biennial event that was first played in Auckland in 1979.

Who can play?

For men anyone over 35 years old can play. (Some of our Golden Oldies Rugby players are over 80!)
For women it’s over 30.

Can individuals or part-teams enter?

Yes! We match individuals or part-teams with others to form a full team.

How many matches do you play?

Each team plays a minimum of 3 games over 3 match days.

How competitive is the play?

We have grades to suit every level of play - from our full-contact Championship Grade to contact-restricted Social Grades.

What’s the social side like?

It’s one of the main reasons Golden Oldies keep coming back! You can look forward to three major functions during the week - Opening Ceremony and Party, Midweek Picnic Day and Grand Finale Dinner and Party.
